Recommended Online Webinar w/ Dr Alfried Längle

Online Webinar: Existential Challenges During a Pandemic
April 19 & 26, 2020

Led by Dr. Alfried Längle, MD, PhD, Dr. h.c.mult
Hosted by MindBodyPassport
4 Continuing Education Credits

How to Cope and Make Meaning During Quarantine

How do we find meaning during a time of isolation: loss of freedom, loss of routines, and loss of physical interactions? Many of us are experiencing newfound feelings of despair, meaninglessness, and loneliness.

Join Dr. Alfried Längle for a discussion on managing negative emotions. Learn how to turn the time of quarantine into a time of personal growth using the four tenets of existential theory. Existential analysis and logotherapy can help us to better understand why we can experience psychic pain during isolation, economic instability, and widespread disease. Not only can we gain an understanding of our emotions, but we can confront and turn around these challenges.

Without our jobs, loved ones, and routines, how do we construct identity? Many of us feel we are losing our sense of self during this trying time.

Existential analysis focuses on four tenets:
1- We are motivated by the fundamental question of existing in the world - I exist, but can I exist as a whole person? Do I have the necessary space, protection and support?
2- We are motivated by the fundamental question of life - I am alive but do I like this? Do I experience fulfillment, affection and appreciation of values?
3- We are motivated by the fundamental question of self - I am myself, but do I feel free to be myself? Do I experience attention, justice and appreciation?
4- We are motivated by the question of existential meaning - I am here, but for what purpose? What is here today to make my life a meaningful whole? What do I live for?

Learn how to apply practical therapeutic exercises to our current lives based on the four tenets of existential theory.

Friday, 7pm-8pm Keynote*: To Live With Inner Consent – An Existential Analytical Approach to a Fulfilling Life
Alfried Längle, Vienna

*CEs pending
Human beings strive for happiness. We all want to have a good life. But how can we reach this goal? Upon what does it depend to get fulfillment in life? – The good life depends upon much more from ourselves than we often think. In large part, it depends upon really becoming ourselves. Only when we can make use of what we are essentially, in the deep inner self, and only if we can thus bring ourselves to the world, "to existence," can we get back a feeling that all our endeavors are worth being lived.
The concept of "inner consent" is key to such existential access, or the life well lived. It embraces our freedom as well as our relationship and feelings, our perception of the world's reality and possible development in the future including the meaning of existence. This feeling of inner consent reflects our basic capacity to deal with the world and ourselves.
Further, it forms a matrix for motivation and practical guidance of life but also for the understanding and treatment of psychopathology. In short, the question of inner consent forms the basis for the structural model of modern Existential Analytical Psychotherapy.

ALFRIED LANGLE'S WORKSHOP & PANEL/Q&A FOLLOWING

Saturday, 10am - 1pm*: Expanding Humanistic Practice with Existential Analysis and Logotherapy
Alfried Längle, Vienna

*CEs pending
This workshop focuses on building a bridge between the given humanistic understanding of treatment and the add-ons by Existential Analysis and Logotherapy. Furthermore, it offers the opportunity to arrive at a closer view of four key existential themes. These four themes derive from a phenomenological understanding of human experience, and form an inescapable life-challenge with which each person must confront. They are: the world, being alive, being a person, and needing meaning.
The workshop will focus on the application of these themes to psychotherapy and their implication for psychopathology. Thus, it opens access to introspective uses of the existential themes and for experiments in everyday living. A demonstration of the approach as well as small group work will be included.

Upcoming Events in E-H Community: EASC Offers "Intro to Existential Analysis" - 3 Day Seminar

Existential Analysis Society of Canada presents "Intro to Existential Analysis" prior to start of January 2015 Cohort

[This Post was Updated Nov 5, 2014]

EA Canada is pleased to announce an additional Intro Seminar on Nov. 28-30, 2014 and the launch of the 4th Cohort in January 2015.

From the Existential Analysis Canada website:
Introductory Training Seminar in Existential Analysis (3-day format)
This introductory seminar will present a meaning-oriented access to life and an existential view of human nature.  We will define and experientially explore the central concept of inner consent (finding one’s inner “yes” to life).  Other topics will include the central attitude of understanding (phenomenology) in therapy and EA’s conceptualization of motivation.  The focus will be two-fold with the development of the person of the therapist (through experiential and dialogical exercises) and the training of participants in an empirically supported and practical approach to psychotherapy.
This three day seminar can also form part of the official training in Existential Analysis through the Existential Analysis Society of Canada – affiliate of GLE-International.  Participants who decide later to enroll in the Training Program will receive credit towards its completion.  If you think you might want to be in the next training cohort, enrolling in this Introductory Seminar is the place you start.  Existential Analysis (EA) and Logotherapy, as developed by Viktor Frankl and elaborated by Alfried Längle, will be introduced as a theoretically coherent and practical approach to therapy.
All trainers are graduates of the first training cohort in Existential Analysis, which met regularly between 2006-2012. Trainers are supported by Dr. Alfried Längle and the International Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis...

Vancouver-based Existential Analysis Society of Canada (Affiliate of the GLE) is a scholarly and professional group of individuals who are or have undertaken the psychotherapeutic and/or counselling training through the GLE International. Existential Analysis Canada offers training programs in Existential Analysis. The International Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis (GLE-International) and the International Society for Existential Analytical Psychotherapy (ISEAP) (both Vienna, Austria) are providing a complete training in existential analytical psychotherapy and/or counselling in Vancouver, BC. Alfried Längle, M.D., Ph.D. and local Canadian trainers are responsible for the entire psychotherapeutic training.  Find out more about the Existential Analysis Canada programs here on their site.

Please Contact Käri-Ann Thor at Existential Analysis Canada by email: kalthors@mac.com to Register for the Event.
