Upcoming Events in E-H Community: EASC Offers "Intro to Existential Analysis" - 3 Day Seminar

Existential Analysis Society of Canada presents "Intro to Existential Analysis" prior to start of January 2015 Cohort

[This Post was Updated Nov 5, 2014]

EA Canada is pleased to announce an additional Intro Seminar on Nov. 28-30, 2014 and the launch of the 4th Cohort in January 2015.

From the Existential Analysis Canada website:
Introductory Training Seminar in Existential Analysis (3-day format)
This introductory seminar will present a meaning-oriented access to life and an existential view of human nature.  We will define and experientially explore the central concept of inner consent (finding one’s inner “yes” to life).  Other topics will include the central attitude of understanding (phenomenology) in therapy and EA’s conceptualization of motivation.  The focus will be two-fold with the development of the person of the therapist (through experiential and dialogical exercises) and the training of participants in an empirically supported and practical approach to psychotherapy.
This three day seminar can also form part of the official training in Existential Analysis through the Existential Analysis Society of Canada – affiliate of GLE-International.  Participants who decide later to enroll in the Training Program will receive credit towards its completion.  If you think you might want to be in the next training cohort, enrolling in this Introductory Seminar is the place you start.  Existential Analysis (EA) and Logotherapy, as developed by Viktor Frankl and elaborated by Alfried Längle, will be introduced as a theoretically coherent and practical approach to therapy.
All trainers are graduates of the first training cohort in Existential Analysis, which met regularly between 2006-2012. Trainers are supported by Dr. Alfried Längle and the International Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis...

Vancouver-based Existential Analysis Society of Canada (Affiliate of the GLE) is a scholarly and professional group of individuals who are or have undertaken the psychotherapeutic and/or counselling training through the GLE International. Existential Analysis Canada offers training programs in Existential Analysis. The International Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis (GLE-International) and the International Society for Existential Analytical Psychotherapy (ISEAP) (both Vienna, Austria) are providing a complete training in existential analytical psychotherapy and/or counselling in Vancouver, BC. Alfried Längle, M.D., Ph.D. and local Canadian trainers are responsible for the entire psychotherapeutic training.  Find out more about the Existential Analysis Canada programs here on their site.

How do we train developing therapists and how do we continue to deepen our practice throughout the years?

This colloquium will encourage participants to share their ideas about the vital skills and attitudes that a therapist in training needs to learn and develop, and with regard to the practicing therapist, which skills and attitudes will not only enrich and deepen clinical work but also perhaps impact society in general.
We hope that our discussions and dialogue will contribute to the profession of psychotherapy by stimulating clinicians, educators, trainers, schools, and licensing agencies to reflect upon the necessary components of eff ective psychotherapy.
Thank you for your interest and we hope to see you at this year’s EHI “The Future of Psychotherapy” Colloquium.
Sincerely,
Nader Shabahangi, EHI President and Conference Coordinator
&
Mary G. Madrigal, EHI Board Member and Conference Coordinator

Engage with Kirk Schneider and EHNW at Upcoming Workshop!

From the Polarized Mind to the Rediscovery of Awe: An Existential-Integrative Perspective on Healing

"The Polarized Mind targets an important problem and shows how it has surfaced throughout the entire world, and chronologically, through the whole of recorded history. The book's scope is mind-boggling and its message crucial."

--Huston Smith, Author of "The World's Religions" on Kirk Schneider's new book The Polarized Mind: Why It's Killing Us and What We Can Do About It."
Presented by: Kirk J Schneider, Ph.D.
Join leading spokesperson for Existential-Humanistic psychology, Kirk J. Schneider, Ph.D. for a day of lecture, discussion and experiential exercises in existential-integrative therapy. Drawing from his new book as well as past work, Dr. Schneider will lead us in examining what he identifies as “The Polarized Mind” – its causes and development, existential issues and qualities, and its treatment via existential-integrative therapy. Dr. Schneider defines the Polarized Mind as the product not of sickness but of unaddressed and unacknowledged fear - which leads individuals and societies to become rigid, narrow, and destructive.
When: Friday, September 26, 2014 9:00am to 4:30pm
Where: Ambridge Event Center, Portland, OR
Cost*:
  • Early Registration by September 1 - $115
  • After September 1 - $140
  • Students - $75
*Includes continental breakfast, beverages and lunch
We encourage you to register early - space is limited

The certificate programs require that both Part I and Part II be taken sequentially. The Modular Training Program offers students the opportunity to participate in the Experientials outside the certificate programs. The courses are held off site, in October and March.
The experientials are designed as skill development courses and have specific learning objectives: (a) how to cultivate personal and relational presence, (b) how to attend to intrapsychic and interpersonal processes, (c) how to illuminate personal life meanings, (d) how to cultivate a therapeutic relationship that effects change, (e) how to work with transference and counter transference within an existential context, (f) how to work existentially with resistance, and (g) how to recognize and work with existential life issues which may be present but disguised. Instructors will teach the principles of the e-h approach through live and video demonstrations, experiential exercises, and dyad work.
